SUMMARY:Mason Jennings "Underneath the Roses" album release show
DESCRIPTION:Minnesota troubadour Mason Jennings celebrates the release of his 16th studio album Underneath the Roses with an altar stage performance at 8pm on Saturday Nov. 25 at Sacred Heart Music Center. \nJennings writes that the songs from Underneath The Roses were written in a burst following the birth of his son\, Western\, in March 2022. \n“I hadn’t written any songs in about a year. I had been dealing with the psychological after effects of the pandemic as well as the loss of my dad. So\, when Western was born I didn’t expect to be writing much. But immediately he was responding to music in a very intense way.” \n Between May and November 2022\, Jennings wrote 48 songs! \n“They certainly uplifted me and connected me with the creative spirit\, and spirit in general\, again. They cover all kinds of ground but\, when I listen back\, I think the central theme is overcoming fear with love\,” he said. \nStone Gossard (Pearl Jam) and Regan Hagar (Brad) from Loosegroove Records helped edit the track list down to 11 and put the songs to tape. \n“I called it Underneath The Roses because I feel like these songs are musical roses and when I look below them there are many thorns and so much dirt and soil. All of it was needed for them to come into existence and bloom\,” said Mason. \nMinnesota-based singer-songwriter Molly Dean will open. \nAdvance E-Tickets are available now for $20 on Eventbrite.com HERE.  Advance paper tickets will also be available at Globe News in Superior and Zenith Bookstore in West Duluth. Tickets will be available at the door for $25 while they last. \n

SUMMARY:Mr. Sun
DESCRIPTION:Mr Sun comprises some of the most original musicians to apply themselves to the American String Band. \nLegendary fiddler Darol Anger is at home in a number of musical genres\, some of which he helped to invent\, and is a member of the original “nuclear” generation of pickers who extended Bluegrass\, Jazz\, and Classical music to find their common ground; Mr Sun is the latest iteration in that legacy. \nDuluth native Joe K. Walsh is one of the foremost contemporary mandolinists\, with four award-winning years in the Gibson Brothers\, three solo recordings\, and a Berklee professorship. \nGrant Gordy is a standout in the crowded field of Acoustic Guitar Wunderkinds. Grant’s work was quickly recognized for its kaleidoscopic excellence and startling emotion\, fusing Jazz\, R&B\, and Bluegrass concepts to an unprecedented degree. \nThe group recently added the masterful bassist Aidan O’Donnell\, a Brooklyn\, New York (by way of Scotland) jazz veteran. \nThe four musical personalities of Mr Sun are so strong that one might imagine the group could explode if not for the palpable love and humor that emanate from every note they play together. The group means to take a relaxed approach to writing its own chapter in the American Music Saga with their new Compass Records release “extrovert”\, on CD & bright yellow vinyl. \nAdvance e-tickets are available HERE for $20. Advance paper tickets are available at Globe News in Superior and Zenith Bookstore in West Duluth. Tickets will be available at the door for $25 while supplies last. Doors at 6 pm. Music at 7.

SUMMARY:Turn Turn Turn
DESCRIPTION:THIS DHOW HAS BEEN CANCELLED \nMinneapolis-based folk rock trio Turn Turn Turn performs an acoustic concert live on the Sacred Heart Music Center altar stage. Attend in person or watch on livestream! \nTurn Turn Turn is a trio who bonded over their mutual love of close harmony 60s and 70s country\, folk\, and pop music and formed an original Americana band. To create their distinctive sound\, the band “turns” to the distant past of early American recorded music\, “turns” again to that renaissance of the 1960s and 1970s\, and finally “turns” again to the present looking forward. \nMembers Adam Levy (guitar\, vocals)\, Savannah Smith (guitar\, vocals) and Barb Brynstad (bass\, vocals) are all mainstays of the Minnesota music scene and together craft an infectious\, pop-infused Americana. \nEven though Turn Turn Turn was born as a cover band\, the group’s original material – sweetheart alt-country folk-pop – quickly stole the spotlight. \nDuluth favorite Mary Bue opens with a solo set. \nE-tickets to attend in person or watch on livestream are available will be available HERE for $12 and $20. SUMMARY:A Very Mimi Christmas
DESCRIPTION:Duluth lost a true friend and artist when Mimi Parker of Low died after a challenging battle with ovarian cancer Nov. 5. Her spirit remains with us in the form of the music she left behind\, one special gift being the band’s beloved Christmas album recorded in 1999. \nThe Duluth music community will gather together and remember Mimi with a special holiday event loving called “A Very Mimi Christmas” from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday\, Dec. 21 at Sacred Heart Music Center. The event will also be live streamed on the Sacred Heart YouTube channel. \n“We wanted to do something to celebrate Mim that would bring people together in the spirit of\nthe season\,” said long-time friend\, Scott Lunt. “Listening to Low’s Christmas album together at\nSacred Heart seemed like the obvious thing to do.” \nThe event will feature a cookie potluck—a nod to Parker’s love of baking\, says Lunt—and a craft table where people can decorate a commemorative tree ornament. “She loved to make stuff\,” he said. “We wanted to include an element in the evening to honor her maker’s spirit.” \nFriends and fans are invited to come\, listen to Low’s Christmas album\, bring a dozen (or two!) cookies to add to the cookie potluck\, decorate a commemorative ornament\, and share some Christmas cheer as we remember our dear Mim in the season she loved so much. \nA suggested donation of $10 will go to benefit Churches United in Ministry\n(CHUM)\, a Duluth organization whose programs serve more than 8\,000 low-income\, homeless\, hungry\, isolated\, or otherwise marginalized community members each year.

SUMMARY:Joseph Huber
DESCRIPTION:As the singer\, songwriter\, performer\, recorder and producer of all of his own material\, Milwaukee-based roots guitarist Joseph Huber has his hands full\, but never seems to miss a beat. He’s gradually honed a sound that seems to fill a very real gap within the still-emerging Americana genre. Having progressed\, Huber continues moving onward and upward\, captivating folks with his sincere and well-crafted songs and the impeccable musicianship of his fellow touring partners. Whether it’s irresistible\, fiddle-driven\, dancing tunes or dusty\, honest\, heart-wrenching ballads\, Huber’s songs and shows span the spectrum of ‘roots’ music while preferring not to stay within the boundaries of any strict genre classification. \n As of now\, Huber has delivered five solo records including 2021’s ‘The Downtowner.” The new record rollicks between social and personal spheres while mixing elements of rock and folk music that fans will immediately see as maintaining a solid continuity of sound and attitude with his previous two albums. A sound that rollicks between the feelings of freedom and severity\, with both wit and earnestness. \nThe Mahon Brothers from Duluth-based New Salty Dog will open. \nAdvance e-tickets available HERE  for $20. Paper tickets will be available at Globe News in Superior and Zenith Bookstore in West Duluth. Tickets will be available at the door for $20 while they last. Doors at 6:30 music at 7:30. \n

SUMMARY:Kardemimmit
DESCRIPTION:Kardemimmit is a band of four awesome women playing the Finnish national instrument\, kantele. \nKardemimmit is in charge of their own music – they compose\, as well as arrange\, write lyrics and produce. Maija Pokela\, Jutta Rahmel\, Anna Wegelius and Leeni Wegelius founded the group in 1999 at the musical institute Juvenalia in the band members’ home town Espoo\, Finland. \nAlongside 15 and 38 stringed kanteles\, singing has a big part in Kardemimmit’s musical universe where original pieces with a modern approach still have a strong foundation in Finnish\, Eastern European and Scandinavian traditions. The Finnish reki-singing style\, 19th century dancing music and Perhonjokilaakso kantele playing style\, Eastern Finnish archaic improvisation and ancient runo singing are all present in Kardemimmit’s music. \nAs a kantele band Kardemimmit is a pioneer: In 2004 Kardemimmit was nominated the Band of the Year by Kantele Association and the next year they won the International Kantele Competition. \nThe group has recorded five albums and tours throughout Europe\, North America and Japan. \nYou might wonder what the band’s name means. It’s a play of words. Kardemumma is a spice that Finnish people use a lot in their sweet baking. Mimmit is a word for girls that have bold nature. That means Kardemimmit is actually the Finnish Ethno Spice Girls. \nAdvance e-tickets available HERE beginning at 10 a.m. Friday. Aug. 12 for $20. Paper tickets will be available at Globe News in Superior and Zenith Bookstore in West Duluth. Tickets will be available at the door for $25 while they last. \nNotice: Sacred Heart Music Center requires masks for everyone attending performances.
