SUMMARY:The New Standards
DESCRIPTION:Formed in 2005 as an off-shoot project between three Minneapolis-based musicians and friends\, The New Standards has grown into a globe-spanning adventure—filling theaters and clubs around the world and spawning several CDs\, videos and cartoons\, as well as dance and theater projects that have charmed and delighted an ever-multiplying legion of faithful fans. \nThe trio will perform their unique jazz take on pop\, punk and classic rock hits as well as songs from the American songbook at 7:30 pm Friday\, Nov. 15. It may even be close enough to Thanksgiving for a holiday song or two. \nThe New Standards are pianist Chan Poling\, of the iconic Minnesota punk band The Suburbs; bassist John Munson\, of the hitmaking rock band Semisonic; and Steve Roehm on the vibraphone. \nDuluth’s own Maxi Childs Trio will open. \nE-tickets will be available for $20 (plus fees) at 10 a.m Friday\, Oct. 4 HERE. Paper tickets will be available for $20 (plus fees) at Globe News in Superior and Zenith Bookstore in West Duluth. Tickets will be available at the door for $25. Doors at 6:30. Music at 7:30.

DESCRIPTION:The new arts and cultural organizing collective Fire in the Village will feature an evening concert led by Village co-founders and touring songwriters Annie Humphrey & David Huckfelt (formerly of The Pines). \nThe event will follow daytime community art workshops led by Village artist and cultural community organizer Shanai Matteson. Concerts will open with a mini-fashion show featuring designs by Annie Humphrey and artist Terri “T-Bazz” Laduke (White Earth). Music will be accompanied by videos & multimedia art activations from our Villages\, the contributions of guitarist and producer Jeremy Ylvisaker\, and other guest artists to be announced. \nFire in the Village is a new arts collective led by Humphrey (Leech Lake Reservation)\, Huckfelt (Minneapolis) and Matteson (rural Aitkin County). The goals of the group are to create art and culture experiences in small communities and cities to remind people that we are made of earth\, and we are power. \nE-tickets will be available for $15 (plus fees) at 10 a.m Friday\, Oct. 4 HERE. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a night of music to support CHUM’s effort in building a new triage shelter in Duluth. \nCharlie Parr\, Jon Edwards\, Kaylee Matuszak\, Ross Thorn\, Sophie Hiroko and the Campfire Tranarchists are all scheduled to perform sets beginning at 7 pm Tuesday\, Nov. 26 \nCHUM’s mission statement is: “People of faith working together to provide basic necessities\, foster stable lives\, and organize for a just and compassionate community.” All ticket proceeds will go to CHUM’s “Stepping On Up” program which is trying to build a new triage shelter. With some of the recent ordinances the city of Duluth has passed it is of utmost importance to get behind and stand with the homeless community. \nE-tickets will go on sale for $25 HERE at 10 a.m. Friday\, Oct. 4. Tickets will be available at the door for $25 while supply lasts. Doors at 6 pm. Music at 7.
