SUMMARY:Ukraine benefit concert
DESCRIPTION:Join us live in person as more than 15 Northland artists perform in a special benefit concert for war relief in Ukraine. \nConcert organizer and performer Paul Metsa will host the event beginning at 7 pm Wednesday\, May 14. All proceeds will be donated to the Nova Ukraine. \nThis concert will also be livestreamed on the Sacred Heart Music Center YouTube channel by Two Harbors Media. \nArtists scheduled to appear include: Mark & Nancy Rubin\, Erin Aldridge\, Christopher David Hanson\, John Ward and Lori Hatten\, Whiskey River\, Tim Martin\, Breanne Marie Tepler\, Sonja Martin\, George Ellsworth\, The Climes\, Duluth-Superior Harbormasters\, Liesel Wilson and The Mahon Brothers. \n“I’ve lined up an incredible array of talent playing in a variety of styles including classical\, blues\, folk\, jazz\, and even a 10-piece barber shop singing group! All musicians\, including myself\, are donating their time\,” said Metsa. “While our democracy here in the states is under threat\, I believe it is important to support a country that is valiantly fighting for its own democracy and sovereignty. DESCRIPTION:Join the Duluth Dylan Fest for a special evening with award-winning New York City-based musician and music journalist Jeff Slate at 7 pm Thursday\, May 25 at Sacred Heart Music Center. \nSlate has appeared on stage and worked with music legends like Pete Townshend\, Roger McGuinn\, Jeff Tweedy\, Sheryl Crow and his music has appeared in advertising \, films and television\, including in the show “Gossip Girl.” His writing can be found in The New Yorker\, Esquire and the Wall Street Journal\, where last year he interviewed Bob Dylan. \nJoining him is music partner Mark Bosch. \nPaul Metsa and Sonny Earl will open the night. \nPaul Metsa\, who the Huffington Post called ” The other great folksinger from Minnesota’s Mesabi Iron Range ” will be joined by his longtime harmonica player Sonny Earl in a great evening playing Dylan songs\, Metsa originals\, and blues and country songs by artists that influenced Bob Dylan. \nE-Tickets are $15 in advance and available at 10 am Monday\, April 3 on Eventbrite HERE. DESCRIPTION:Legendary musician and songwriter Paul Metsa will perform songs and talk about his new book “Alphabet Jazz” in our next “Live from The Heart: Songwriters/Storytellers” live stream series only on the Sacred Heart Music Center YouTube channel. \nMaija Jenson will host. \nMetsa was born on the Minnesota Iron Range\, was based in Minneapolis for decades and now lives in Duluth where he performs regularly. He has received seven Minnesota Music Awards and has played more than 5\,000 gigs\, including forays to Iceland and Siberia. \nHis book\, “Alphabet Jazz\,” is a collection of poetry\, prose\, stories\, and songs that Metsa wrote between 1984 and 2022. He describes the work as “a personal diary of sorts – midnight blasts of inspiration\, love letters in poem\, personal tributes to musicians and friends who have passed on\, true stories\, letters and songs I have written along the way that I still perform.” \nA limited number of FREE studio audience tickets are available HERE. Audience members should arrive no later than 7:15 and use the east door to access the music center. \nFunding provided by a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.
