DESCRIPTION:As the daughter of a blues musician\, Chastity Brown was born with an innate ability to channel complex circumstances into beautiful\, uplifting songs. But after surviving the isolation of the early pandemic and witnessing the global racial reckoning that manifested itself in the riots mere blocks from her South Minneapolis home\, even she is surprised to hear the way her new album Sing To The Walls turned out. \n“It’s a love album\, in a way I didn’t plan on\,” Chastity says. \nLike so many artists who endured the uncertainty of the 2020 lockdown\, Chastity’s instinct was to turn inward\, at first out of self-preservation\, and then because the new songs kept coming and coming. DESCRIPTION:Presenting some of the finest northland music makers\, Danny Frank & The Smoky Gold will host their 3rd Annual Songwriter Showcase at 7 pm Saturday\, March 23 on the beautiful Sacred Heart Music Center altar stage. \nThis one-time-only event features three singer-songwriters performing a solo set of their original music for a live audience\, discussing the craft of songwriting\, and sharing stories that inspire their music. Danny Frank & The Smoky Gold will conclude the night with a full band performance. \n2024 featured artists are: Shane Nelson\, Hannah Rey and Skarlett Woods. \nFrank said the inspiration for this event emerged in part by reflecting on his own journey as a singer songwriter\, and in part through his admiration of the multitude of gifted songwriters and performers in the Twin Ports area. \n“Songwriting lives at the heart of all music\, regardless of genre or instrumentation. It is a process of self-reflection and storytelling mixed with creative melodic expression\,” said Frank. “I have always been amazed at the sheer number of musicians in the Duluth area who write and perform their own original music. DESCRIPTION:Twin Cities-based vocalists and songwriters Jennifer Grimm and Leslie Vincent will perform an evening of jazz\, R&B\, and pop tunes\, alongside guitarist Joe Cruz and pianist Ted Godbout. The group will perform original work\, favorites off their respective records\, and familiar tunes\, with a few surprises along the way. \nDon’t miss this special event on the beautiful Sacred Heart altar stage at 7 pm Saturday\, Feb. 10. \nJennifer Grimm is a nationally acclaimed vocalist and songwriter with credits including performing at New York’s Carnegie Hall\, scoring hits internationally and having her music featured on networks such as NBC\, USA\, and SHOWTIME. \nLeslie Vincent is a prolific songwriter and jazz vocalist\, equally at home singing the Great American Songbook\, musical theater\, and contemporary rock and pop. In 2023 she released her sophomore album About Last Night\, featuring mixing jazz standards\, vintage blues\, and her own fresh originals. \nJoe Cruz has developed a vast array of styles over his 40 year career. He plays anything from solo acoustic guitar to swinging with a jazz combo and picking mandolin in a bluegrass band or exploring his Latin roots on Cuban trés and Puerto Rican cuatro. \nTed Godbout is a pianist\, composer\, and educator based in Minneapolis. He has performed with such notable artists and groups as Art Webb\, Mark Colby\, and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. \nE-tickets go on sale at 10am\, Friday\, Dec. 29 HERE. DESCRIPTION:Mr Sun comprises some of the most original musicians to apply themselves to the American String Band. \nLegendary fiddler Darol Anger is at home in a number of musical genres\, some of which he helped to invent\, and is a member of the original “nuclear” generation of pickers who extended Bluegrass\, Jazz\, and Classical music to find their common ground; Mr Sun is the latest iteration in that legacy. \nDuluth native Joe K. Walsh is one of the foremost contemporary mandolinists\, with four award-winning years in the Gibson Brothers\, three solo recordings\, and a Berklee professorship. \nGrant Gordy is a standout in the crowded field of Acoustic Guitar Wunderkinds. Grant’s work was quickly recognized for its kaleidoscopic excellence and startling emotion\, fusing Jazz\, R&B\, and Bluegrass concepts to an unprecedented degree. \nThe group recently added the masterful bassist Aidan O’Donnell\, a Brooklyn\, New York (by way of Scotland) jazz veteran. \nThe four musical personalities of Mr Sun are so strong that one might imagine the group could explode if not for the palpable love and humor that emanate from every note they play together. Attend in person or watch on livestream! \nTurn Turn Turn is a trio who bonded over their mutual love of close harmony 60s and 70s country\, folk\, and pop music and formed an original Americana band.
