DESCRIPTION:Amwaaj is a Minnesota-based ensemble performing classical\, folk and modern music of the Arab world on traditional instruments: oud\, violin\, nay\, buzuq\, riqq\, and darbukkah or Egyptian tabla. \nAmwaaj will be joined by guest artist  Rana Rishmawi on qanun. \nEach of the Amwaaj members have spent years studying with noted practitioners of the art\, including Palestinian oudist\, violinist\, composer and master educator Simon Shaheen and Lebanese nay and flute master Bassam Saba. \nThis is a rare opportunity to hear live classical Arabic music played on traditional instruments and to learn more about this elegant and sophisticated musical tradition\, just one aspect of the rich world of Arab arts. This concert will appeal to lovers of acoustic music\, European early music aficionados\, and those curious about music and instruments from around the world. \nTwo hands-on workshops will be offered Saturday June 1st starting at 2pm..
