SUMMARY:Songwriter Showcase hosted by Danny Frank & The Smoky Gold
DESCRIPTION:Showcasing some of the finest Twin Ports music makers\, Danny Frank & The Smoky Gold will host the first ever Duluth Songwriter Showcase Saturday\, March 12 on the Sacred Heart Music Center altar stage. \nThe event will feature four Duluth-based singer-songwriters performing a short solo set of their original material for a live audience\, discussing the craft of songwriting\, and sharing stories that inspire their music. Danny Frank & The Smoky Gold will conclude the night with a one-hour full band performance. \nFrank said the inspiration for this event emerged in part by reflecting on his own journey as a singer songwriter\, and in part through his admiration of the multitude of gifted songwriters and performers in the Twin Ports area. \n “Songwriting lives at the heart of all music\, regardless of genre or instrumentation. It is a process of self-reflection and storytelling mixed with creative melodic expression\,” said Frank. “I have always been amazed at the sheer number of musicians in the Duluth area who write and perform their own original music. Many of these people are my dear friends\, and comprise a beautiful\, passionate\, and supportive community. My vision for this event is to showcase a small fraction of that talent by highlighting some singer-songwriters who are pillars of this community\, and who have inspired my own craft.” \nFeatured artist include: Adam Starhia of the Black River Revue\, “Boss Mama” Colleen Myhre\, Nate Weiler of the Low Sons\, and Breanne Tepler of Breanne Marie & The Front Porch Sinners. Danny and his band hope to make this an annual event\, highlighting different musicians each year. \nNOTICE: All concert-goers must wear a mask\, provide proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test at the door prior to each show. Phone photos of vaccination cards will be accepted. Further precautions may be taken pending state and county health guidelines. \nTickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the release of “Live from The Heart: The Sacred Heart Music Center Quarantine Sessions” album from 4 to 7pm Sunday\, March 20 at Ursa Minor Brewery\, 2415 W. Superior Street in Duluth. \n“Live from The Heart: The Sacred Heart Music Center Quarantine Sessions” features songs recorded during closed-door\, livestream concerts performed by 12 Twin Ports-based artists during the COVID-19 pandemic. One song from each concert was selected for inclusion on the album. Superior Siren\, Brothers Burn Mountain\, One Less Guest\, Dance Attic\, Logik in 3rd Person\, AfroGeode\, Mary Bue and the Monarchy\, Brian Dack & Arna Rennan\, Charlie Parr\, Breanne Marie and the Front Porch Sinners\, Sonja & Lee Martin and Shane Nelson are featured on the record. \nThe listening party will air all 12 tracks from the album\, deliver ticket giveaways\, drink specials\, Ursa Minor pizza and more. “Live from The Heart: The Sacred Heart Music Center Quarantine Sessions” compact disk copies will be available for purchase. The record is also available to download on Bandcamp\,com. DESCRIPTION:It’s time for a Bonnie Raitt tribute concert! \nLegendary guitarist Bonnie Raitt released her first album of blistering blues-based rock and roll 50 years ago in 1971. Since then she has gone on to record 17 full-length albums\, win 10 Grammy Awards and was voted #50 on the Rolling Stone magazine list of 100 Greatest Singers and #89 on the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. Raitt has collaborated with some of the biggest names in music including John Prine\, John Lee Hooker\, The Pointer Sisters and Bruce Hornsby. Her classic album “Luck of the Draw” reached #2 on the US charts 30 years ago in 1991. \nThe Duluth music community will honor Bonnie Raitt with a Duluth Does Bonnie Raitt performance on Saturday\, March 26 at Sacred Heart Music Center. More than two dozen Twin Ports musicians will perform the best of Bonnie Raitt – the hits\, select album tracks and some of her many collaborations. Artists scheduled to perform include The Fishheads\, Breanne Marie\, Ida Jo\, Janie & the Spokes\, Kate & Bill Isles\, Born Too Late and many more. \nAll proceeds from the tribute concert go directly to Sacred Heart Music Center programming and building maintenance. \nNOTICE: All concert-goers must wear a mask\, provide proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test at the door prior to each show.
